Drillable Items

This is the complete list of all the items that can be specified for inclusion on a custom drilled test fixture kit. With all items there is no need to specify the hole size or whether the hole is to be drilled on the probe plate or pressure plate; this is figured out automatically. See how to prepare your file.

Test Probes

S075 specifies a standard S-075 size test probe. We will drill a 0.052" hole on the probe plate for the receptacle.

S100 specifies a larger test probe of the S-100 size. We do not sell these but if you have them we can drill holes for you. We will drill a 0.067" hole on the probe plate for the receptacle.

Locating Probes

S3 specifies a regular size locating probe. We will drill a 0.093" hole on the probe plate for the receptacle.

S4 specifies a larger size locating probe. We will drill a 0.106" hole on the probe plate for the receptacle.

GP2 specifies the largest size locating probe. We will drill a 0.197" (5.0mm) hole on the probe plate. This type of locating probe does not use a receptacle.

Hold Down

H specifies a hold-down post. We will drill a 0.125" hole on the pressure plate.

Tag-Connect

TC2030V, TC2030H, TC2050V, TC2050H, TC2070V and TC2070H specify Tag-Connect Plug-of-Nails™ probes, for probing a compatible footprint on the board under test.

For the location, specify the exact center of the footprint. Choose the item that corresponds to the size of Tag-Connect probe you wish to use. The V suffix indicates that the probe is aligned with the Y axis; the H suffix indicates that the probe is aligned with the X axis.

You must supply the Tag-Connect probe. We sell plastic mounts complete with screws that are intended for mounting Tag-Connect probes through the probe plate. Please purchase the mount that corresponds to your Tag-Connect probe.

We will drill two holes for securing the mount, and a cutout for the Tag-Connect probe to pass through the probe plate.

App Note for Tag-Connect probes

Mechanical

M specifies a general purpose mounting hole that you might want to use for some custom mounting arrangement such as custom board supports, or mounting test equipment under the probe plate. We will drill a 0.125" (3.2mm) hole on the probe plate.

V specifies a vertex (corner) of a slot or cutout. You can create arbitrary cutouts by specifying a series of vertices. We will cut a slot in the probe plate from each vertex to the next (and back to the start) using a 0.125" (3.2mm) end mill. The edge of the cutout will therefore be 0.063" (1.6mm) beyond the specified coordinates.

All the vertices in one cutout must have the same reference (the first column in the CSV file). If you need multiple cutouts, give each one a different reference.

Cutouts in the probe plate are great for mounting custom connectors that mate with the board under test; for creating clearance for tall components on the bottom side of the board under test; or for mounting things like buttons or displays on the probe plate. However, take care with the size and location of cutouts. Large or badly positioned cutouts could make the probe plate too weak to withstand probing forces.

Examples

All these example files use inches for units and will work on an MF300 with zero offset and rotation.
